چکیده
I N T R O D U C T I O N Lasers have been used for oral soft tissue dental procedures for more than 30 years, and have been researched since the middle 1960s. Their reported benefits over conventional treatment modalities include: reducing numbers of appointments, reducing stress, improving visibility, improving patient comfort, and reducing complications. Critics have commented that most of these advantages are anecdotal and need to be substantiated with further research. With scientific references, this paper will show: • Fundamental laser-tissue interaction with oral soft tissue; • Laser use can be minimally invasive compared to conventional modalities; • Laser energy can aid in hemostasis, providing for improved visibility during a surgical procedure; • Laser irradiation can reduce bacteria; • Laser use can help in wound healing and can produce other photobiomodulation effects; • Laser energy can reduce pain when compared to conventional methods.

Comparison of Soft Tissue Thermal Changes Induced by Three Types of Diode Lasers at 810, 940, and 980nm Wavelengths
Background and Aim: Diode laser is a great choice for soft tissue surgery. The diode laser is partially absorbed by hard dental tissues, making it safe for soft tissue surgery. This study aimed to compare the tissue thermal changes induced by three types of diode lasers at 810, 940, and 980nm wavelengths. Materials and Methods: In this in-vitro experimental study, using a diode laser device (c...
متن کاملThe Effect of Polarized Laser Radiation on Viscoelastic Properties of Soft Tissue
Background: Laser-tissue interaction on low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has widespread medical applications (e.g., improved wound healing). The tensile strength of radiated tissue by LLLT is known to be increased mainly because of cross collagen bands developed after radiation. Objective: In this work, we studied the instantaneous effect of radiation of polarized laser beam on the viscoelastic ti...
متن کاملOptimum driving a Z-pinch for soft X-Ray lasers
A capillary plasma z-pinch as an alternative active medium of soft X-Ray lasers was studied experimentally and theoretically. The theoretical analysis was based on the self consistent solution of the so called “snow plow” model. The dynamics of pinched plasma is determined by the capillary parameters and by the time dependence of electrical current passing through it. The current time dependenc...
متن کاملDiode laser application in soft tissue oral surgery.
INTRODUCTION Diode laser with wavelengths ranging from 810 to 980 nm in a continuous or pulsed mode was used as a possible instrument for soft tissue surgery in the oral cavity. DISCUSSION Diode laser is one of laser systems in which photons are produced by electric current with wavelengths of 810, 940 and 980nm. The application of diode laser in soft tissue oral surgery has been evaluated fr...
متن کاملLaser: Tissue Interaction and Its Application in Clinical Dentistry
In 1960, Theodore Maiman exposed a human tooth to his prototype Ruby laser. The emission wavelength of the laser at 633 nm (deep red visible light) offered no beneficial interaction with the tooth, with much of the energy transmitting the enamel and dentine with presumable attenuation by the pigmented pulpal tissue. The inconsistencies of laser-tissue interaction continue to pose some difficult...
